Tips for Keeping your Computer Virus Free

  1. Try to close popups as soon as the appear; at all costs avoid clicking on them. Some popups use tricky messages to try and get you to close them, make sure to read the popups carefully

  2. Lots of times pages redirect you to foreign websites, the majority of the time these websites are infected, try to monitor the URL of the website you are visiting

  3. Do not open e-mail attachments from unknown senders. Always download attachments and scan them with antivirus programs prior to opening

  4. Keep your computer up to date with the latest virus definitions from your antivirus company as well as all the updates from Microsoft by using Windows Update

  5. Periodically scan your computer for viruses, depending on how often you use it you should complete a scan every 1 to 2 weeks

  6. Avoid most of the websites that offer free services, most of the time anything that is free comes with a catch or hidden bundled software that will automatically install

  7. If you download music or movies make sure to do so from trusted sources, many malicious programs get spread through illegal download websites
